Recessed or Surface Spotlights | Which to Choose?

Recessed or Surface Spotlights | Which to Choose?

Recessed or surface-mounted spotlights? The decision is often based on design, but ceiling construction and the desired lighting effect are equally important.

A recessed spotlight is largely concealed within the ceiling, creating a calm and minimalist appearance. Sufficient installation depth is required, however. Insulation, technical services and driver positioning can also determine which recessed solution is possible.

A surface-mounted spotlight is installed directly against the ceiling. This makes it particularly useful where there is no suspended ceiling or insufficient installation depth. Modern surface-mounted luminaires can also be deliberately used as architectural features.

Neither solution is automatically better. Some projects combine both, using discreet recessed spotlights in certain rooms and surface-mounted luminaires where the architecture or ceiling construction requires them.

Unsure whether to choose recessed or surface-mounted spotlights? Have the possibilities assessed beforehand so that aesthetics, technology and lighting effect work together seamlessly.
